The idea of expanding to Los Angeles and Orlando is a great way of getting our name out there. At first, both locations were consider.
The more we looked at the budget and the expansion possibilities, we decided to postpone Orlando until 2020. Los Angeles is still full steam ahead. They are essentially two different film festivals with it’s own FilmFreeway submission page.
Los Angeles is a vibrant area, where it all started. What is know as Hollywood today, or Hollywoodland at first, it is one of the most famous cities in the world. Hollywood is not even a city actually, simply a small area within the city of Los Angeles. Los Angeles has a lot to offer. Food, movies, beaches, several amusement parks within 30 miles of each other and fashion. Because of the San Andreas and San Gabriel Mountains, it is cut off from the rest of the world making Southern California it’s own virtual country. Because of this, the culture is much different than other places in the United States.
There are a lot of hungry filmmakers in Southern California that want their movies on the big screen. We chose a theater that is high class, where there’s actually food being served and where most major motion picture films are premiered. We want filmmakers to have the same experience as they would when seeing a movie on the big screen. This is why we created SARCE in the first place.
Orlando is Orlando because of Walt Disney’s dream of an immersive theme park where the land itself is larger than Manhattan island. The property is so huge, it actually has a noticeable curve on this planet. Walt Disney World in Florida is one of the happiest places on Earth. There is no other place like it. Why not have SARCE in the happiest place? This is when we chose AMC Theaters to at Disney Springs to host SARCE 2019. With the expansion into Los Angeles, we decided that we are going to postpone the Florida opening until next year.
Orlando was built around Disney World Resort. There is no other place like it. It is almost in the center of Florida itself. One of the business resorts and number one in the most visited in the Magic Kingdom theme park, it is the best location for the east coast version of SARCE.
We are going to postpone Orlando until 2020. In the meantime, we are going to move forward with Los Angeles expansion and continue with Austin in it’s third year. The reason for Orlando being postponed is simply due to cost. We want to see how Los Angeles receives us. If everything works out, Orlando will be green-lighted for 2020.
