Digital Cinema Package Submission Information

UPDATE 2018-11-27 23:38 CST UTC -6: We will be partnering with Simple DCP in our SARCE Events of 2021, not for SARCE Events of 2019. For all SARCE Events of 2019 (excluding SARCE Attic), please follow the instructions posted below.

The information below has been updated 2018-04-14 22:00 CDT UTC -5.

The following applies to SARCE Attic as well and will be in a movie theater.

SARCE LAX 2019 may or may not require DCP. More details are to come within a few weeks.

Video Files and DCP Uploads

Our venues/theaters are equipped with 4K projectors. If you plan on producing your own DCP's for film festivals, we recommend that you produce a 2K DCP and 4K DCP (if applicable) so it is compatible with 2K projectors for other film festivals. 4K DCP are compatible with 2K projectors, but there is loss in quality in the viewing. Please send us the 4K DCP package, if you have it. Movies produced in 1080p HD or lower, 2K DCP is good enough.

If selected, please send us the BEST video quality and audio quality media. If in 4K, please send the 4K video file. You can send us video files with embedded 5.1/7.1 surround sound. Or you can send us the surround sound audio as a singular audio file or 6/8 independent audio files. Please make sure you label each audio file the position of the speakers.

- Surround Sound Audio Files to include:
- 5.1 Surround: Front Left, Front Center, Front Right, Surround Left, Surround Right, and LFE (BASS).
- 7.1 Surround: Will include Rear Left, Rear Right

Video Files Uploads

Got DCP?

You can produce your own DCP files and it is not hard at all. There are some open source (FREE) applications that can create your DCP files.

Please do not use Adobe Premiere to create your DCP's. For some reason, the Adobe Premiere DCP output does not work with our theater's server playback system. Please use another method for creating DCP packages or talk to us about creating a DCP package for you. Plus, Adobe Premiere does not render 4K or Surround Sound DCPs.

Stereo Audio: If your movie was produced in 2.0 stereo, we would like some of that audio data to go to the LFE (low-frequency enhanced) channel. Please utilize the front left, front center, and front right channels. For the front center channel, create a mono mix of the dialog only and place it in the front center channel. Just mute the sound effects tracks in your video editor before rendering. You can copy the front left and front right channels to the surround channels as well; surround left and surround right. If you want to go crazy, copy the same to rear left and rear right. Why not? For the LFE channel, create a mono mix and add a roll off at 120 Hz. Add it to the LFE channel and now you got BASS. Your 2.0 stereo track will sound amazing.

Surround Audio: This is the best way to distribute your audio. 5.1 surround or even 7.1 surround. Magix (Sony) Vegas Pro and Final Cut Pro are capable of producing 5.1 audio mixes. Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve is capable of producing 5.1 and 7.1 mixes. iMovie is capable of 2.0 stereo mix only. See Stereo Audio above.

5.1 Surround Sound: Front left, front center, front right, surround left, surround right, and LFE (low-frequency enhanced) channel.

7.1 Surround Sound: Adds rear left and rear right.

4K movies: If you originally produced your movie in 4K or better, please produce a 4K DCP. You paid a lot of money to produce your 4K movie so why not show your movie in all of its glory. It looks fantastic on a large screen. Some movie theaters are only equipped with 2K projectors. Always produce both 2K and 4K DCP's for different movie theater venues and different film festivals. It is important that you contact the film festival staff to find out if you need to send a 2K DCP or 4K DCP.

SARCE AUS and SARCE Attic AUS venue is equipped with 4K projectors. Please send the 4K to us.

SARCE LAX venue may or may not be DCP compatible. More information to come in the next few weeks.

2K movies: You can upscale you movie to 4K, but there is no need. 2K looks great projecting from a 2K projector or 4K projector. We would gladly accept your 2K DCP.

1080p or 720p HD movies: You will need to upscale your movie to 2K. However, the 1920x1080 ratio is not the same ratio as 2K DCP ratio. A 2K ratio is 1998x1080 which will add barely noticeable black bars on the left and right of the screen. Do not worry, the video quality is still great if you use Final Cut Pro, DaVinci, or Vegas Pro. 720p movies, you may notice a few artifacts only noticeable by someone with a trained eye. The average eye will not notice the artifacts in your video.

Even if you produced the DCP yourself, please send us the best video quality of your movie:
MOV, MP4, WMV and 5.1 surround sound if applicable. We will be using portions of the video file for promotional use only. See RULES for details.

Need a DCP? We got you!

We could create the DCP Package for you at no charge so you do not have to do it yourself. We will do it for you at no extra cost, just for SARCE. However, if you want a copy of the DCP we created, there is a cost for that. Please visit the following site for details. Remember, the extra cost is only if you want a copy of the DCP files in 4K and 2K:
https://shizmediastudios.com/dcp/

Stereo Audio: If you movie was produced in 2.0 stereo sound, we will make it sound like it has surround sound by copying the audio date into all 5 channels of audio, plus creating a powerful track for the LFE (low-frequency enhanced) channel.

Surround Audio: If your movie was produced in 5.1 surround or 7.1 surround, please send us six or eight 48 kHz or 96 kHz individual wav files at 16-bit or 24-bit each. Please label your wav files with the speaker positions. Do not send us 44.1 kHz or 88.2 kHz wav files.

Any questions, please Email submit@sarce.us.
